FIAT History, Vol 5.
Fiat 520 Superfiat and Fiat 520
Produced from 1921-1923, the 520 Superfiat was Fiat's first entry in the luxury car market. During it's production run, it was the only car featuring a V12 engine. The 6.8L engine produced a whooping (for the time) 92 hp capable of reaching a top speed of 75 mph.
Designed to compete with German luxury cars, the Fiat 520 quickly gained the "Superfiat" moniker because it was 16.4 feet long. It came in 3 versions: a cabrio, a sedan, and a semi-closed sedan. With the semi-closed version, the front seat was uncovered while the passenger compartment was fully enclosed. The interiors of all versions had leather seats and wood panels.
The Superfiat was one of the first vehicles to come equipped with steering wheels on the left side of the automobile.
Only about 30 copies of the Superfiats were sold.
From 1927-1930, Fiat made a shorter wheelbase version of the 520 that had an inline 6. The 2.2L 6 cylinder 520 produced 46 hp. It sold ~20,000 copies.
